Sedation Dentistry
Dental anesthesia
Our office offers patients the option of Intravenous Sedation, also referred to as Dental Anesthesia for their dental treatment.
Intravenous Sedation helps you to be comfortable and calm when undergoing dental procedures. Your treatment can be completed for you under intravenous sedation, if you so desire. Intravenous sedation or “IV sedation” is designed to better enable you to undergo your dental procedures while you are very relaxed. It will enable you to tolerate the dental procedure and will essentially help alleviate the anxiety associated with your treatment.
Who is our anesthesiologist?
Levin Endodontics is happy to have Dr. Dillon Atwood as part of our team. Dr. Atwood studied at Davidson College and attended the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. He completed his training in Anesthesiology at Lutheran Medical Center in New York City. During that time he also practiced pediatric anesthesia in Arizona and special needs anesthesia at Helen Hayes Hospital in New York. He is a member of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists (ASDA) and lectures regularly on multiple aspects of anesthesia practice. Dr. Atwood is one of only a few Board Certified Dentist Anesthesiologists in North Carolina. He focuses on providing general anesthesia services to pediatric patients and to patients with special needs in the private practice setting.
If you choose the option of intravenous sedation your IV sedation/anesthesia is administered and monitored by Dr Atwood. During your procedure, Dr Atwood monitors your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels. Dr Atwood can adjust your dosage at any point and can use reversal medications if necessary. Most people who receive IV sedation dentistry fall asleep and have little to no memory of their treatment when they wake up. This option is best for people with severe dental anxiety or those who are undergoing lengthy procedures.
